Shillong: Meghalaya Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday (May 29) launched the nationwide ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ (VKSA), a crucial pre-kharif season awareness campaign for farmers.

The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ (VKSA), a national initiative under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is scheduled to conclude on June 12, 2025.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by the State Agriculture Minister at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Upper Shillong in East Khasi Hills in the presence of officials from the Agriculture, Horticulture, AH & Vety departments along with farmers of the district.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Lyngdoh encouraged farmers to actively participate in the campaign, stressing the importance of enhancing their farming knowledge and skills through serious discussions and idea exchange with agricultural scientists who will be visiting numerous villages across all 11 blocks of the East Khasi Hills district during the campaign.

She suggested that the farmers of the district, and the state as a whole, may aggregate their land holdings to project larger acreage in order to secure benefits from the various developmental schemes of the government.

The minister stressed the importance of a policy that will be in line with the local conditions of the state, given its unique agro-climatic conditions and terrain.

The farmers were especially urged to minimize the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemicals and to explore ways and means along with the scientists, to grow crops in a natural manner by use of compost and other latest technology.
