New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan on Monday to discuss the state’s ambitious plan to launch its own satellite, ASSAMSAT.
During the meeting, Narayanan assured the chief minister of ISRO’s full support in bringing the project to fruition, according to an official statement.
The discussion, held in New Delhi, revolved around Assam’s collaboration with IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre) under the Department of Space.
The chief minister emphasised that ASSAMSAT would play a crucial role in providing continuous data for critical socio-economic projects and dedicated services in agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border management, and law enforcement.
In a social media post following the meeting, the Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) highlighted the satellite’s potential to enhance flood management, policy planning, and border monitoring.

The post also expressed gratitude for ISRO’s commitment to supporting the state’s visionary project.
Sarma lauded ISRO’s achievements, describing its scientists as a source of inspiration for the entire nation.
