Guwahati: The Assam government launched the first phase of its flagship education evaluation programme, Gunotsav 2025, on Monday.
The exercise is aimed at evaluating the performance of nearly 14.11 lakh students of the state.
The theme of ‘Gunotsav 2025’ is “Ensuring Quality Education”.
It will be conducted in three phases, with the first phase covering 11 districts from January 6 to 9, the second phase in 14 districts from January 17 to 22, and the third phase in 10 districts from February 5 to 8.
The first phase will involve evaluating 16,056 schools and 14,11,874 students in 11 districts of Assam with the support of 6,365 external evaluators.
The districts included in this phase are Barpeta, Bajali, Sribhumi, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara Mankachar, and Udalguri.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu emphasized the significance of the initiative, calling it crucial for improving educational standards in Assam.
He encouraged everyone to actively participate and cooperate to ensure the program’s success.
Pegu said, “Gunotsav 2025 will take place from January 6-9 in 11 districts, covering 16,056 schools and 14,11,874 students with the support of 6,365 external evaluators. Everyone’s cooperation and active participation are earnestly requested to ensure its successful completion, fostering a higher standard of education for the future of Assam.”
The evaluation will cover various educational institutions, including Adarsha Vidyalayas, Tea Garden Model Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalayas, and Tea Garden Management Schools.
The evaluation will encompass over 14 lakh students from these areas, focusing on key aspects such as student learning outcomes, the quality of school infrastructure, and the effectiveness of teacher performance.
The government has mobilized a diverse group of evaluators, including Ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and senior government officials from the IAS, IPS, IFS, and other administrative cadres.
The Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) has extended its full support to Gunotsav 2025.
In a post on X, Pegu said, “Dr Jayanta Baruah, President of the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), informed me over the phone that @ACTA_ASSAM will fully cooperate with and actively participate in Gunutsav 2025. This state government initiative to assess and enhance school education is set to begin on 6 January 2025. My best wishes to everyone involved.”

He expressed his appreciation for this collaboration, highlighting the program’s potential to identify shortcomings in the education system and pave the way for much-needed reforms.
