Kohima: Nagaland’s BJP Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak on Thursday accused the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of ‘hurting her dignity’.
In a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagpdeep Dhankhar, Konyak said hailing from an ST community and being a woman member, her “dignity and self-esteem has been deeply hurt by LoP Rahul Gandhi” and also sought the Chairman’s protection.
Konyak claimed in the letter that she was participating in a peaceful protest against the atrocities committed by the Congress party against Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar.
The letter stated, “I was standing just below the staircase of Makar Dwaar with a placard in my hand. The security personnel had cordoned and created a passage to the entrance for the MPs of other parties. Suddenly Gandhi along with other party members came in front of me despite there being a passage created for them.”
“He misbehaved with me in a loud voice and his physical proximity to me was so close that I being a lady member felt extremely uncomfortable. I stepped aside with heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way,” the letter read.
Konyak is the state president of the Nagaland BJP’s Mahila Morcha. She created history in April 2022 by becoming the first woman from Nagaland to enter the Upper House and only the second woman from the state to enter either Houses of Parliament.

Hailing from Nagaland‘s Dimapur, Konyak holds a Masters in English Literature from Delhi University. She has served as a member of the Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
