Shillong: Brother Eric Steve D’Souza, a distinguished educator who once taught Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, passed away on Sunday after suffering from prolonged illness. He passed away in Regina Mundi in Goa.
The announcement of Brother D’Souza’s demise was made by Brother Solomon Morris, the current Principal of St. Edmund’s School, Shillong, on Sunday afternoon.
According to Brother Morris, Brother D’Souza passed away this morning at Regina Mundi, Goa. His demise followed a prolonged illness. Brother Morris also informed that the mortal remains of Brother D’Souza will be brought to Shillong for burial. The mortal remains are likely to arrive on Tuesday, and the funeral will be held on Wednesday.
Fondly known as “Dasu,” D’Souza taught Khan at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi during his early years.
His career spanned several prestigious institutions across India, including St. Edmund’s School in Shillong where he left an enduring impact on countless students and colleagues.
D’Souza was renowned for his innovative teaching methods, incorporating visual imagery, mind-mapping, and humor into his lessons.
His dedication to education extended beyond the classroom. D’Souza founded the Providence School in Meghalaya, which was a beacon of hope for underprivileged children.
He was an esteemed member of the Christian Brothers congregation and throughout his career, Brother D’Souza taught at schools run by the Christian Brothers congregation in various parts of India.
His compassion and commitment to education touched the lives of students from diverse backgrounds.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma paid tributes to D’Souza’s invaluable contributions to education.
Expressing condolences, CM Sangma said that D’Souza’s legacy would continue to inspire educators and students.
