GUWAHATI: Acclaimed Bollywood actor Adil Hussain has been chosen for the prestigious Anandaram Dhekial Phukan Award 2024.
Hussain, known for his versatile performances in films such as ‘English Vinglish,’ ‘Life of Pi,‘ and ‘Makdee‘, has garnered widespread acclaim for his portrayal of diverse characters.
Taking to social media, the actor said, “Thank you so much for choosing me for Anandaram Dhekial Phukan award. I am honoured and humbled.”
He received the National Film Awards (Special Jury) at the 2017 National Film Awards for Hotel Salvation and Maj Rati Keteki.
The actor, who hails from Assam‘s Goalpara, has starred in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian and French films.
The award is presented in honor of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan, a literary luminary who played a pivotal role in the Assamese literary renaissance during the Orunodoi era.

A pioneer of Assamese literature, Phukan was instrumental in promoting the Assamese language and culture, particularly through his involvement in the literary revolution initiated by missionaries.
He played a crucial role in reinstating the Assamese language as the official language of Assam.
His contributions to the development of the Assamese language and literature are widely recognized and celebrated.
