GUWAHATI: Aaranyak, a premier biodiversity conservation organization, partnered with the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP &TR) to commemorate International Tiger Day with a series of events at several ranges of the park.

The KNP&TR authority collaborated with Aaranyak, WWF-India, WTI, TCF, LBCS, Nagaon Girls College, and Bhumi to organize the celebration highlighting tiger conservation efforts.

Every year, International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29 to raise awareness about the conservation of tigers, focusing on protecting the natural habitats of the endangered big cat.

Aaranyak actively participated in the celebration of International Tiger Day at the Burhapahar Range office and Nagaon Girls’ College on July 28 and July 29 respectively.

Over 100 students participated in the celebration marked by various events, including art competition, extempore speech competition, and cultural events.

Students from six fringe villages— Deusur, Amgurichang, Amguribagan, Notundanga, Ganjubasti and Rangalu— participated in the various programmes, including competitions and talks on tiger conservation, organized at Burhapahar Range.

Niloy Baruah, Range Officer of Burhapahar Range, highlighted the significance of the celebration of International Tiger Day.

Arif Hussain, Aaranyak’s Manager in Rhino Research and Conservation Division (RRCD), enlightened the participants through an audio-visual presentation on the importance of tigers, facts about tiger habits and habitats, global and national distribution of the tigers, threats, and issues related to tigers and conservation of the species.

The day’s programme was marked by a cultural event featuring a performance of Karbi folk dance by a team of girls from Notundanga village and a rendition of an Assamese song by Kuldeep Bania, Forest staff of Burhapahar Range.

The programme organized in Nagaon Girls College was also marked by a series of lectures on the significance of the day and the importance of tiger conservation.
