WILLIANAGAR: The Meghalaya government will construct a state-of-the-art synthetic football turf at Rongranggre Government Higher Secondary School in Williamnagar in the East Garo Hills district to boost sports infrastructure in the state.
Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise Marak recently laid the foundation stone for Rs the project valued at Rs 11.56 crore.
The project is aimed at improving facilities for local youth and aspiring athletes of the state.
Marak said that the project is an initiative of the Conrad Sangma-led state government to provide football enthusiasts of the state with a top-notch playing field.
It includes a FIFA-standard turf, a VIP rostrum, and changing rooms, aligning with international football infrastructure standards.
The foundation-stone laying ceremony was attended by key officials, including Vibhor Agarwal, Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, the school’s Principal, and the District Sports Officer of East Garo Hills.
The state government’s initiative to create a state-of-the-art football pitch is aimed at inspiring young players and enabling them to reach their full potential.
Synthetic football pitches play a key in the performance and safety of athletes. The artificial football pitches not only replicate the look and feel of natural grass but also offer enhanced durability, resilience, and playability.
