Gangtok: In a first for Sikkim, a student from a private university in the state has been selected to represent India at the prestigious World Skills Asia 2025 competition, scheduled to be held in Taipei from November 27 to 29.

Radhika Chettri, an Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) student at Medhavi Skills University (MSU), will compete in the Health and Social Care category, the university announced on Wednesday.

Radhika earlier won a silver medal in the same category at the India Skills competition last year—Sikkim’s first-ever national-level medal in the event—also making MSU the youngest Indian university to secure a win at the national skills championship.

World Skills Asia is considered one of the most prestigious platforms showcasing excellence in vocational training, innovation and technical skills. Often described as the “Olympics of Skills,” the event brings together top performers from across the continent.

India’s first official contingent for the competition was recently flagged off by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

In preparation for the event, Radhika has undergone rigorous, high-intensity training involving simulation-based learning, critical-care scenarios and hands-on practice at Vidyanta Skills Institute and Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

“Representing India at World Skills Asia is a milestone I’m truly honoured to achieve. With the support of MSU, my mentors, and my family, I am preparing with full dedication to make my state and my country proud,” Radhika said.

Praising her achievement, MSU founder and Vice Chancellor Pravesh Dudani said Radhika exemplifies the grit and excellence the university stands for.

MSU Pro-Chancellor Kuldip Sarma added, “Radhika’s rise from Sikkim to an international platform shows the transformative power of strong, skill-based education. This is the future of India’s workforce.”
