Agartala: The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), TIPRA Motha’s youth wing, on Monday threatened that it would enforce a “lockdown” across Tripura. This warning comes after the group demanded that the state government take action against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma for allegedly disrespecting their party chief.
The YTF has warned of a statewide lockdown—similar to those during the COVID-19 pandemic—if the government fails to take action against the district magistrate within a week for disrespecting party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.
The YTF activists on Monday launched a protest and locked the office of the Gomati DM after he purportedly denied a meeting with the royal scion and founder of Motha Party when he arrived at the DM’s residence.
“Our leaders and supporters staged a massive protest in front of the DM’s office at Udaipur on Monday. The YTF also organised agitation in the SDM offices at Amarpur and Korbook in Gomati district, protesting the disrespect shown by the district magistrate,” YTF president Suraj Debbarma said.
He said disrespecting the Maharaja (Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma) is a serious issue. “Now, we want the DM to be suspended for disrespecting the Maharaja,” he stated.
He said, “We request Chief Minister Manik Saha to consider the issue as very serious, and take action. If something untoward happens in the state, the onus will be on you. We don’t want the public to suffer.”
The opposition CPI(M) has criticized the manner in which Tipra Motha’s youth wing protested at the Gomati District Magistrate’s office on Monday.

Tripura Assembly Leader of Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, posted on social media that while the CPI(M) condemned the Gomati DM for not meeting with Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya and Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) chief Purna Chandra Jamatia on May 25, the party also condemned the Youth Tipra Federation’s (YTF) supporters for locking the main entrance and raising slogans during their protest rally at the DM’s Udaipur office.
