Agartala: Tipra Motha Party (TMP) legislator Philip Reang has alleged that he was threatened by a group of unidentified men at the MLA hostel in Khejur Bagan, West Tripura, on Monday night, prompting a high-level security review.
According to Reang, the incident occurred around 10 pm when three to four men, reportedly intoxicated, confronted him outside his room.
“The new MLA hostel is not safe for legislators. Who will take responsibility for this security lapse?” he posted on X.
Terming the episode a “serious lapse,” Reang told reporters that the matter needs immediate attention as nearly 40 MLAs reside in the facility.
Following the complaint, Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar visited the hostel on Tuesday to assess security arrangements.
He confirmed that police have launched an investigation to identify those involved.

“Normally, only guests are permitted inside the premises. We are taking this matter very seriously,” Dhankar said.
Earlier in the day, a seven-member delegation of TMP legislators met Chief Minister Manik Saha, urging him to strengthen security at the hostel.
Senior MLA Ranjit Debbarma called the incident a major breach and said a formal police complaint would be filed.
“The Chief Minister assured us of foolproof security,” he added.
