The notification stated that the process is being undertaken in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 23 of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (Constitution, Election and Conduct of Business) Rules, 1985.
Earlier, State Election Commissioner (SEC), Manoj Kumar appointed Assistant Electoral Returning Officers (AEROs) for all the 28 seats of the tribal council. The present tenure of the council will expire on April 18, making the upcoming elections crucial for the continuation of the democratic process in the tribal autonomous body.
As per sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Tripura on February 20, ahead of the upcoming TTAADC polls. Shah’s one-day visit to the state is being seen as politically significant in the run-up to the council polls.
