Agartala: Despite significant disruptions in the supply chain caused by massive landslides in Assam’s hill regions, Tripura has sufficient reserves of essential commodities such as rice, wheat, and sugar, an official confirmed on Thursday.
According to Food and Civil Supplies Director Sumit Lodh, the state currently holds stockpiles of rice for 86 days, wheat and pulses for 50 days each, sugar for 22 days, and salt for 30 days.
However, the fuel supply is limited, with reserves expected to last only four to five days under current demand.
“We are closely monitoring the situation daily following the disruption of supply chains caused by landslides that affected railway tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR),” Lodh said.
Special Secretary Debapriya Bardhan chaired a review meeting on Wednesday with officials from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and the Railways to assess the situation and coordinate efforts.
“Currently, there is no shortage of Public Distribution System (PDS) items despite the supply chain challenges. Restoration work is ongoing, and train services are expected to resume by June 29,” Lodh stated.
The NFR authorities have been working on clearing the debris at a rapid pace, and it is anticipated that railway connectivity will be restored soon.

However, Lodh warned that prolonged delays beyond June 29 could lead to complications, particularly in maintaining adequate fuel supplies.
The landslides, which struck on June 23, disrupted train services in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Assam, severing railway connectivity to Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and parts of Barak Valley.
The government is actively coordinating with the FCI, IOCL, and NFR to ensure that the situation remains manageable until connectivity is restored.
