Agartala: Nine youths from Tripura have been employed as nursing caregivers in Japan under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) scheme.
Among them, three have already begun work, while six more are set to join by July 2025, earning monthly salaries exceeding Rs. 1 lakh.
The initiative, part of the Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP), aims to provide global employment opportunities for Tripura’s youth.
By 2025-26, 60 additional candidates are expected to secure similar positions in Japan.
This milestone follows a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan to promote the SSW programme.

In collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International, Tripura’s Directorate of Skill Development facilitated nine months of intensive Japanese language and nursing training in Greater Noida.
Financial support from the North Eastern Council (NEC) played a key role in enabling this initiative.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha lauded the achievement, stating, “Under the Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Prakalpa and the MoC with Japan, Tripura is paving the way for more opportunities in the global workforce. A proud moment as our talented youth take their skills to the international stage!”
