Agartala: Communal tensions have erupted in the Gandatvisa area of Tripura’s Dhalai district following the death of 21-year-old tribal student Parmeshwar Riang who was allegedly brutally assaulted on July 7.
In response to this tension, the district administration imposed Section 144 in the area after several houses and shops were attacked following the incident.
The authorities also suspended internet services for 24 hours to maintain peace in the State.
To bring the situation under control, the district administration has deployed heavy forces on the ground.
Tripura Police have arrested four individuals following the death of the youth.
As per reports, the altercation occurred between two groups at a fair on July 7 turned violent, resulting in serious injuries to Parameswar Reang.
The youth died on Friday while undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.
The villagers have demanded strict actions against the culprits responsible for the brutal attack on the youth.
Taking to X handle, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has condemned the attack on Parmeshwar Reang.
He wrote, “I condemn the murder of Parmeshwar Reang in Gandatwisa. I have personally spoken to the highest police authority and demanded that the culprits be charged under relevant IPC sections. I also appeal for peace and restraint. I will personally go and meet the family. We demand justice.”
