Agartala: In a bid to boost tourism and showcase its natural heritage, the Tripura government has announced plans to develop the Ludhua Tea Estate in South Tripura’s Sabroom sub-division into a full-fledged eco-tourism park, a senior official confirmed on Monday.
Sprawling across 22 acres, the Ludhua estate currently produces high-quality black and green tea.
Recognising its scenic landscape and potential for sustainable tourism, the state is preparing to turn the estate into a nature-based tourism destination.
State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, accompanied by Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi and former MLA Sankar Roy, visited the site on Monday to assess the project’s feasibility.
Local officials including Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sabroom and Executive Engineer Sunil Poddar were also present during the site visit and subsequent review meeting.
Speaking about the initiative, Director Negi said, “To give a major push to eco-tourism, the government is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase, estimated at Rs. 32 crore.”
According to the proposed plan, the eco-tourism park will feature a boating facility, cafeteria, ropeway across the tea estate slopes, footbridges, log huts, seating areas, and a dedicated zone for medicinal plants.
The design aims to blend ecological preservation with visitor-friendly infrastructure.

Negi emphasised the government’s commitment to elevating Tripura’s tourism profile over the next two to three years, promising that all major tourist hubs — including the Ludhua project — will be equipped with modern amenities.
“Once completed, the Ludhua tea estate will become a sought-after destination for eco-conscious travellers,” he added.
The development marks a strategic move to harness Tripura’s untapped tourism potential by combining the state’s lush tea gardens with sustainable tourism practices.
