Agartala: The Tripura TET Teachers’ Welfare Association (TTTWA) has urged the state government to implement the 8th Pay Commission recommendations for employees without delay, ahead of the Centre’s proposed rollout in January 2026.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, TTTWA secretary Ajay Paul said nearly 1.4 lakh state government staff have yet to receive the full benefits of the 7th Pay Commission, which no administration in Tripura has implemented in its entirety.
Recalling past efforts, Paul noted that the 4th Pay Commission was last fully enforced in 1988 under former Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder.
He highlighted the disparity in Dearness Allowance (DA), pointing out that state employees receive 33%, while their central counterparts get 55%.
“Most states offer 55% DA, except for a few like West Bengal, Manipur and Tripura,” Paul said.
The association has demanded the release of the pending 22% DA by October 31.
“If this is not cleared within two months, the state will fail to reflect its committed expenditure to the Centre, leading to further deprivation for employees,” Paul warned.
TTTWA also called for the removal of the five-year fixed pay rule for TET-qualified teachers, which has been in place since 2017.

“Such a practice is not followed elsewhere in the country. We have sought the Chief Minister’s intervention to end this policy,” Paul added.
Additionally, the association pressed for the urgent appointment of headmasters in government schools, many of which have been functioning without them for over a decade.
“The last recruitment through the Tripura Public Service Commission happened nearly 13 years ago. Schools are facing a leadership vacuum that must be addressed immediately,” Paul said.
