Agartala: Tripura’s law and order situation remains stable with a notable decline in crime and road accident fatalities this year, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.
Addressing the media after a review meeting with Khowai district police officials on Tuesday, the DGP said the state had recorded an 8–10% drop in overall crime so far in 2025, compared to the same period last year.
The DGP’s remarks came a day after Tripura Congress chief Asish Kumar Saha raised concerns over an alleged breakdown in law and order and sought urgent police intervention following reported attacks on party MLAs, leaders, and workers.
Contrary to those claims, DGP Dhankar highlighted several positive trends.
“There has been a marked improvement in key areas. Road accident fatalities, a recurring concern in the state, have decreased significantly—dropping from 126 deaths in the first half of 2024 to 88 in the same period this year,” he said.

The state has also seen gains in its anti-narcotics efforts. Law enforcement agencies seized contraband worth Rs. 20.20 crore till June this year, up from Rs. 18 crore over the same period in 2024—a 10% increase.
“These figures suggest that the law and order situation is under control, and we are committed to improving it further,” DGP Dhankar said.
The remarks aim to counter the political narrative raised by the opposition while highlighting the administration’s focus on crime prevention, public safety, and drug control.
