Agartala: Tripura has received export orders from Germany for 500 metric tonnes of organic ginger and 20 metric tonnes of bird’s eye chilli, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Sunday.
The minister announced the development after attending BIOFACH 2026, an international organic trade fair held in Nuremberg, Germany, from February 10 to 13. He said German buyers showed strong interest in Tripura’s organic produce and expressed their willingness to visit the state following the exhibition.
Nath showcased Tripura’s organic products at the event, which was organised under the aegis of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. He noted that APEDA plays a crucial role in promoting India’s organic products in global markets.
Highlighting the national export roadmap, Nath said APEDA aims to increase India’s share in the global organic food market from 2.5 per cent to nearly 12 per cent over the next five years. He added that Tripura is keen to contribute significantly to this target, drawing on its long-standing tradition of organic farming supported by favourable geography and rich biodiversity.
The minister said the state currently has 53 active organic farmer producer companies, over 26,000 hectares of certified organic farmland and more than 26,800 registered organic farmers. He also listed key products such as aromatic rice varieties, black rice, sticky rice, bird’s eye chilli, sesame, turmeric, ginger, pineapple and jackfruit.
