Agartala: The 16th Finance Commission, chaired by Arvind Panagariya, held an in-depth discussion on Tripura’s financial plans for the five-year period starting from the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The meeting, which took place on Thursday, was attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and Chief Secretary JK Sinha.
During the discussion, Panagariya highlighted that the Tripura government had presented a detailed projection of its expenditure and revenue collection for the upcoming five years.
He noted that the state’s financial outlook appears stable, with a decline in committed expenditure.
The Commission chairman also mentioned that Tripura had requested an increase in its share of taxes, seeking a rise from 41 percent to 50 percent.

This request aligns with similar appeals made by several other Northeastern states.
On the matter of the central pay structure for state government employees, Panagariya clarified that the state had submitted its expenditure and revenue forecast for the next five years.
He explained that the state’s memorandum included a brief statement regarding these projections, but a final decision by the Finance Commission is still pending.
