Agartala: Over 1,000 protestors held a demonstration on Tuesday (August 12) at Amarpur in Tripura’s Gomati district and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Manik Saha, seeking ouster of the Bangladeshi armed group Parbattyo Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Larma.
The protest was held under the banner of the Amarpur Sub-Division Conscious Citizens’ Forum.
In the memorandum, the protestors highlighted the serious issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh. “The issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh is very serious. While illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh regularly enter Tripura through various border points, the organised illegal immigration is being done by the Parbattyo Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Larma. All their overground leaders and cadres of the PCJSS from Bangladesh have been settling into Tripura while their armed cadres have established camps in border areas inside Tripura,” the memorandum stated.
The protestors pointed to the arrest of 13 PCJSS members in Agartala on June 3, 2025, who were receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained while illegally crossing into India, as proof of this infiltration.
The protestors further stated, “The PCJSS (Santu) group members are directly involved in illegal drug trade trafficking, smuggling of Burmese cigarettes, cattle trafficking and arms smuggling. The PCJSS (Santu) is receiving financial and political support from Pakistan’s ISI apart from Bangladesh.”
According to the protestors, the PCJSS (Santu) has established armed camps in various locations, including Narayanpur/Mog Para, Lakkhidar Para, Korollyachari, and Kamalakha under Gandachara Sub-Division, as well as Midhingechari under Kanchanpur Sub-Division and Sushenpara (Baghechara) under Amarpur Division along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
“Whenever Indian citizens visit the border areas, the PCJSS (Santu) cadres demand taxes. Indian citizens cannot do any activity in the border areas because of the threats and intimidation from the PJCSS (Santu). In Tripura, the PCJSS (Santu) cadres threaten Indian citizens through their Indian agents,” the memorandum stated.
