Agartala: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has cancelled all scheduled leave for staff of the state’s power department during the peak monsoon months of May and June, with exceptions made only for serious medical emergencies.
The directive was issued following a high-level review meeting chaired by the minister on Wednesday, attended by officials from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), Tripura Power Transmission Ltd (TPTL), and other associated utilities.
“Ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to citizens during the monsoon is our highest priority,” Nath stated.
“Every member of the department must rise to the occasion and fulfil this critical responsibility.”
Officials said the minister also hinted at post-monsoon incentives or benefits for staff as a token of appreciation for their dedication during this critical period.
Tripura typically experiences severe weather conditions during the monsoon season, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and high winds that frequently damage power infrastructure such as transmission lines and substations.
Power Secretary Abhishek Singh presented a comprehensive overview of departmental challenges and emphasised a solution-oriented approach to mitigate potential disruptions.
TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu reassured that the corporation is fully equipped to meet the season’s demands, citing no shortage of manpower, vehicles, or essential equipment.
“We are fully prepared for the monsoon. Service delivery will not be compromised,” he asserted.

TPTL General Manager Ranjan Debbarma added that the maintenance of high-capacity power lines and substations is nearing completion. “Additional precautions have been taken in vulnerable zones that saw outages last year,” he said.
He noted that while some planned outages may be necessary for maintenance, they are intended to enhance long-term public safety and service reliability.
