Agartala: The Tripura Police have reportedly arrested five individuals, including three Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts at Kailashahar in Unakoti district on Sunday.
The individuals have been arrested for attempting to illegally enter India and travel to Chennai.
According to Kailashahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar, a police team in plain clothes was conducting surveillance in the Paiturbazar New Motor Stand area when they noticed suspicious of the five persons.
They were allegedly preparing to leave for Chennai in a Maruti van via Dharmanagar of North District.

Tapas Malakar said, “Their behavior raised suspicion and during preliminary questioning they gave inconsistent replies regarding their identity and travel plans. We immediately intercepted the vehicle and detained them for verification.”
Following interrogation, the police confirmed that three of the arrested individuals Arman Hossain, Imran Hossain and Monir Hossain were residents of the Comilla district of Bangladesh.
“The trio confessed to having illegally crossed the Bangladesh border to enter India”, Malakar said.
The other two accused are Faruk Mia and Abdul Qayyum of the Rangauti area. They have been arrested on charges of facilitating the illegal entry and arranging onward travel to Chennai.
All five accused were brought to Kailashahar Police Station from the Paiturbazar area for further questioning. The Maruti van used in the operation has been seized and detained at the police station.
Further, the police said that an interrogation is underway and the accused will be produced before the court tomorrow after completion of initial legal formalities.
