Agartala: Tripura Police on Tuesday (June 3) apprehended 13 individuals from Bangladesh, including three women, for illegally entering Indian Territory in Agartala.
As per reports, the arrested persons are members of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), a Left-inclined political organization from Bangladesh‘s Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
The 13 PCJSS members, led by Santu Larma, reportedly sustained injuries during armed clashes from May 29 – May 31 with their rival group, the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF), which is a Chakma-led political faction headed by Prasit Khisha, at Panchari.
Amtali Police Station personnel arrested them from a rented house near Tripura Medical College at Hapania in Agartala.
Among the 13 members of the group, 10 were men and three were women. According to sources, most of them were found wounded.
Sources said the PCJSS members sneaked into Agartala after crossing the India-Bangladesh Border without any valid documents for medical treatment. They were staying at a rented house near the Tripura Medical College in Hapania.
Based on a tip-off, Police from Amtali PS raided the house and arrested them. The arrested persons are scheduled to be produced before the Court on Wednesday (June 4).
The armed conflict between PCJSS and UPDF reportedly broke out in Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati district of Bangladesh.
The PCJSS group has been under scrutiny of the Indian security forces, as Santu Larma has been kept as the chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council by Mohammed Yunus and the Bangladesh Army.
Santu Larma has served as Chairman of the CHT Regional Council for the past 27 years without undergoing any election.
