Agartala: The Tribal Welfare Department of Tripura has rolled out smart classes across 33 tribal hostels, marking a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in remote areas.
This initiative, which aims to transform education for tribal students, was officially inaugurated on Sunday by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma.
The launch coincided with the commencement of the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, a two-week campaign focused on promoting inclusivity and digital access.
Students from all 33 government-run hostels actively participated in the programme, utilising the newly installed digital infrastructure.
The first phase of the project is set to benefit approximately 7,000 students, providing them with access to a variety of advanced educational resources.
Key features of the initiative include live interactive online classes, recorded lectures, multilingual printed study materials, timed online tests, and a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS).
Additionally, the programme offers motivational and mental health counseling sessions, ensuring holistic support for students.
Tribal Welfare Director Subhasish Das shared the department’s vision of expanding the program to 100 hostels across the state, aiming to equip more students with digital tools and resources.
“In this first phase, we have implemented smart classes in 33 hostels under the leadership of Debbarma,” Das said.
