Agartala: Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) on Tuesday created a national first among Regional Rural Banks by launching its maiden co-branded RuPay Credit Card in partnership with its sponsor bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB).

Bank officials said TGB is the first RRB among the eight banks sponsored by PNB—and the first in the country overall—to introduce a co-branded RuPay credit card, marking a significant milestone in the rural banking and digital finance landscape.

The launch comes in the Golden Jubilee year of Tripura Gramin Bank, which operates through a network of 150 full-fledged branches and 12 ultra-small branches across the state.

Officials credited the initiative to the leadership of TGB Chairman Satyendra Singh, under whose tenure the bank has focused strongly on digital expansion, customer-centric services and inclusive growth.

Describing the launch as a key step in the bank’s digital transformation journey, officials said the new credit card will provide customers, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, with easier access to formal credit within the RuPay ecosystem, enhancing financial convenience and inclusion.

The launch event was attended by Rakhi Biswas, Director (Small Savings, Group Insurance and Institutional Finance), TGB Chairman Satyendra Singh, Deepak Kumar, General Manager at Punjab National Bank’s head office, along with other senior officials.

The initiative is expected to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between Tripura Gramin Bank and Punjab National Bank, rooted in shared goals of innovation, trust and sustainable banking solutions.

As the bank marks 50 years of service, officials said the achievement reflects its institutional strength and evolving role in empowering customers through modern banking products.

Earlier, Singh had highlighted that TGB has emerged as a leading implementing agency for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship welfare schemes, ensuring transparent and timely delivery of benefits at the grassroots level.

He said the bank’s work under initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Direct Benefit Transfer has expanded financial inclusion and reduced leakages, while schemes like the Kisan Credit Card, crop and life insurance programmes, pension schemes and social security initiatives have strengthened financial protection for farmers, workers and vulnerable sections.

Singh added that Tripura Gramin Bank continues to play an active role in supporting rural livelihoods, women’s empowerment and youth entrepreneurship, reinforcing its partnership with the people and the state government in building a more inclusive and resilient economy.
