Agartala: The Tripura government has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Technologies Ltd on Wednesday to upgrade 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the northeastern state.

Of the total Rs 683.27 crore required for the upgradation plan, Tata Technologies Ltd will bear 86% of the cost, and the state government will contribute the remaining 14%.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state will separately spend Rs 107 crore to improve infrastructure in the existing ITIs.

The chief minister outlined a five-year timeline for the completion of the upgradation plan.

“After intense discussion, the state government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Technologies Ltd today to upgrade the 19 ITIs operating under the Industries and Commerce department. This is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish to acquire skill,” CM Saha said.

He stated that ITIs have been providing outdated courses that are no longer relevant to the job market, making it challenging for graduates to secure employment.

Under the upgradation plan, the ITIs will introduce new courses with strong job prospects, both in India and abroad.

He further explained that another advantage of the plan is that TTL will eventually hire ITI graduates, fulfilling its requirement for skilled manpower.

Saha believed that the innovative ITI courses would draw in students who have lost faith in the outdated programs, offering them a more promising future.
