Agartala: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has revised its target to create 1.35 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’ during the current financial year, an official said on Monday.
The decision was taken at a state-level steering committee meeting held on November 15 at the Civil Secretariat, chaired by Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh.
TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma said the earlier target of enabling 1.08 lakh women to become ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women earning an annual household income of over Rs 1 lakh—has already been achieved, prompting the revised goal. He added that necessary measures will be implemented and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) will be updated accordingly.
Chakma noted that Chief Minister Manik Saha, on October 25, disbursed Rs 100 crore to one lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’ to support their income-generating activities. South Tripura currently has the highest number of such beneficiaries at 21,898, he added.
