Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that the state government is exploring the possibility of establishing a Tourist Police unit to enhance tourist safety.
Saha said this while addressing a tour and travel operators’ meet organized by the Department of Tourism and the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) in Agartala.
He stated that there has been a substantial rise in the number of both domestic and international tourists visiting Tripura.
Saha highlighted the pivotal role of tour and travel operators in propelling the growth of the tourism industry, emphasizing the sector’s potential for job creation and investment.
“After the introduction of the Act East Policy, significant improvements were made to the communication system, including national highways, railways and airways,” he said.
Tripura previously had only one national highway, but work is now underway on additional highways, the chief minister said.
“Communication has vastly improved and we want the people of the country to know about Tripura. Through these efforts, everyone will become aware of the state’s tourism potential,” he added.
He emphasized that tourists often prioritize law and order when choosing a destination. He highlighted Tripura’s significant progress in this area, emphasizing the state’s current peaceful environment.
“We are also planning to introduce Tourist Police so that tourists do not face any issues. We are working on infrastructure development with funding from the Asian Development Bank. Homestays have been introduced in Dumboor. We are now working on developing additional tourist destinations,” he added.
