Agartala: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has said that the state government has decided to introduce seaplane services to promote tourism in Narikelkunja and Chhabimura under the Gomati district.
As part of the initiative, Chowdhury, who also holds the transport portfolio, conducted a crucial meeting on Saturday with representatives from a private airline to discuss the potential introduction of seaplane operations in the state.
“The Tourism and Transport Departments have jointly adopted a special initiative to introduce Seaplane Tourism in the state. Today, I presided over the hybrid meeting for discussion with Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd (MEHAIR) in connection with the operationalisation of seaplane in Tripura,” Chowdhury wrote on his social media handle.
The initiative aims to provide swift and scenic access to water-based destinations, including Narikel Kunja at Dumbur Lake, Chobimura, and various unexplored locations across the state’s waterways.
“Seaplane tourism is not only a fascinating concept but also an innovative step that can unlock a new chapter in Tripura’s tourism journey,” the minister said.
Chowdhury added that seaplanes can provide tourists with a new experience and also contribute to the development of the local economy.
