Agartala: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has announced that the government is planning to introduce app-based cab services like Ola or Uber for passengers traveling to and from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport.
The goal is to offer more comfortable and cost-effective journeys in addition to the existing prepaid taxi and auto services currently available.
The Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, the lone airport in Tripura, currently has prepaid taxi and three-wheeler services for incoming and outgoing passengers.
The airport records a footfall of more than 4,000 passengers every day. “The existing facility could not give services on par with Ola or Uber and that’s the reason behind the government’s plan,” he said.
Chowdhury added that the government aims to enhance the quality of transport options at the airport by implementing these services.
The minister, however, assured that business of the existing facilities would not be hampered in any way.
He said that almost all the airports, except the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, in the country have app-based cab services but it will be soon introduced for the convenience of the passengers.

He also urged the operators to remain available until the last flight arrives to ensure passengers receive the best possible service.
Chowdhury further hinted at the eventual introduction of international flights from Agartala to Chittagong, Bangladesh, though the timeline may be delayed.
