Agartala: With peace firmly restored in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday encouraged people to visit the state’s diverse tourist destinations, highlighting a significant boost in footfall amid improving security and infrastructure.
Speaking at Chabimura in Gomati district after laying the foundation stone for tourism infrastructure projects worth Rs. 67 crore, Saha said the state is witnessing steady growth in tourism thanks to its rich blend of spiritual, ecological, and historical attractions.
“Tripura has moved past its troubled history. With the surrender of banned insurgent groups like NLFT and ATTF, the state has transformed into a peaceful destination,” said the chief minister, noting that the region once plagued by violence is now free from insurgency.
The northeastern state, which had experienced decades of insurgent activity since the 1990s, has seen a dramatic turnaround.
Tourist arrivals rose to 7 lakh in the 2024–25 fiscal year, up from 5 lakh the previous year—a significant jump that Saha credited to improved law and order.
To ensure safety and enhance visitor experience, the government is considering the introduction of a dedicated tourist police force.
“Safety is a major factor for travellers, and we are working to address that,” he added.
Saha also emphasized that tourism can be a catalyst for economic development in rural areas and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to developing the sector.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury echoed the chief minister’s vision, outlining several new projects aimed at enhancing Tripura’s tourism infrastructure.
These include the development of modern facilities at Fatik Sagar and Amar Sagar under Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding.
The planned amenities comprise a state-of-the-art cafeteria, boating services, a walking trail, and 16 fully equipped cottages.

Chowdhury further stated that the central government has allocated Rs. 97.70 crore under the Swadesh Darshan scheme to develop a cluster of 51 Shakti Peeths at Bandower in Gomati district.
Additionally, Rs. 48 crore has been sanctioned for creating an eco-tourism destination at Sachindranagar in West Tripura.
“Once these projects are completed, they will significantly transform Tripura’s tourism landscape,” said Chowdhury.
