Agartala: A Special Task Force (STF) has been set up in West Tripura district to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar, district police officials confirmed on Friday.
The 15-member STF, led by a senior Deputy Superintendent of Police, includes the officers-in-charge of all local police stations. Its primary mandate is to trace, verify, and initiate deportation proceedings against unauthorized foreign nationals—particularly those identified as Bangladeshi or Rohingya migrants.
According to an official order issued by Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, once individuals are identified as illegal immigrants, their biometric data—including fingerprints and facial photographs—as well as demographic details will be collected and uploaded to the central foreigners’ identification portal.
They will then be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for deportation.
The order also directs the District Intelligence Bureau (DIB) to compile and maintain detailed data on such cases, updated weekly, fortnightly, and monthly for administrative tracking and follow-up.

The move has received support from Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, who took to social media to thank the police and urged indigenous residents to report any suspicious individuals.
He credited TMP’s persistent pressure on the BJP-led coalition government for prompting the action.
“This is a step in the right direction,” Debbarma said. “When people speak up collectively, change becomes possible. I urge all genuine citizens of Tripura to continue reporting such activities.”
