Agartala: Tripura police on Saturday arrested five more individuals for their alleged involvement in the Santirbazar violence in the state’s Dhalai district, which left 10 people, including three government officials, injured.
The incident occurred on October 23 during a statewide bandh called by the Tripura Civil Society (TCS) to press for an eight-point charter of demands, including the swift implementation of the Tiprasa accord.
The bandh, which turned violent in parts of the state, saw clashes between protestors and security personnel, leading to multiple injuries and damage to property.
The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally in the BJP-led coalition government, had signed the Tiprasa accord with the Centre and the state government in February last year to address long-pending issues concerning the indigenous communities of Tripura.
Meanwhile, a five-member delegation of the Tripura BJP visited Santirbazar village in Dhalai district on October 31 to review the situation following the October 23 violence during the statewide bandh called by the TCS.
The team is set to submit a detailed report to Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The delegation included SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, BJP MLA Swapna Pal, and BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma. Their visit aimed to assess the extent of the damage and examine the factors that triggered the unrest.
