Tripura scripted a new chapter in its sporting history with the inauguration of the first-ever Tripura State Games 2026 at the prestigious Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex in Agartala on Sunday.
Organised by the Tripura Olympic Association (TOA), the event will continue till February 24, 2026 and feature competitions in 18 disciplines across multiple venues in the state, with participation from both male and female athletes representing various districts.
The State Games mark a significant milestone in promoting sports and athletic excellence across the state and are aimed at strengthening grassroots-level sporting culture.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, while inaugurating the event underscored the importance of sports in nation-building and public health. He described the launch of the Tripura State Games as a historic first in the state’s history, emphasizing that the initiative would create a structured platform to identify talented athletes from the remotest villages and provide them opportunities to compete at state and national levels.

He said, “Sports is important for us. The Prime Minister has given the slogan of Fit India and has started a campaign for it. If we remain healthy, the state will also remain healthy and function well. There is no dearth of talent in Tripura.”
“Earlier, Tripura athletes were sent abroad in the name of other states. But now that the Tripura Olympic Association has been formed, athletes have a new path. Financially, we are also giving athletes the benefit of many schemes of the Tripura government… In the future, many athletes will emerge from Tripura and do good work,” CM Saha added.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, alongside several other distinguished guests.
