Agartala: Tripura has witnessed a major crackdown on drug trafficking in the past ten days, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Saturday.
The announcement comes a day after authorities recovered 90,000 bottles of banned cough syrup from a goods train at Jirania railway station in West Tripura.
“In the last ten days, coordinated operations by the police and intelligence agencies have led to the recovery of 896 kg of ganja, 90,817 bottles of banned cough syrup, 180 Yaba tablets, and 27.78 grams of heroin,” Saha said in a post on X.
The chief minister praised the relentless efforts of the police, Tripura State Rifles, and intelligence units in tackling the growing drug menace, reaffirming the government’s commitment to making Tripura a drug-free state.
“The administration will continue to take strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade,” he added.

Officials noted that much of the seized contraband was reportedly destined for other northeastern states and neighbouring countries, highlighting the role of Tripura’s porous international borders in smuggling networks.
Recent operations focused on intensified surveillance at railway stations, border check posts, and inter-district routes, resulting in a string of successful interceptions.
Saha also appealed to citizens to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
“This fight against drugs requires collective responsibility. Together, we can protect our youth and society from this menace,” he said.
