Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday assured citizens that his government is determined to stop the resurgence of militancy.
He stated that law enforcement agencies are actively addressing concerns and working to ensure peace and stability.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the second batch of Agartala Government Nursing College, Saha said, “I recently heard claims suggesting insurgency is rising in Tripura. Let me assure everyone that all necessary steps are being taken. Our government will not allow militancy to return. Law enforcement is already handling the situation.”
Saha’s comments were in response to a statement by former chief minister and CPIM politburo member Manik Sarkar.
Sarkar had voiced concerns about reports of insurgents regrouping in parts of the state.
The chief minister stressed that development remains the government’s main focus.
“In the past seven years, Tripura has made significant progress. Earlier, the state had only six to seven medical seats and one dental seat. Now, we have 400 medical seats. Tripura Medical College has applied for an additional 50 seats. Once approved, the total will rise to 450 MBBS seats. Nursing seats have also increased significantly,” he said.

Saha highlighted efforts to improve healthcare in the state.
“We aim to meet the national standard of one doctor per 1,000 people. There is still a gap, but with new colleges and doctors being trained, we are confident of reaching the target soon,” he added.
He also urged the new nursing students to dedicate themselves to their work, emphasising their vital role in strengthening healthcare.
The chief minister’s remarks reflected the government’s dual commitment to maintaining law and order and driving development to improve the state.
