Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has called on the central government to prioritise the repair of damaged barbed wire fencing along the state’s border with Bangladesh.
With 856 kms of shared border, around 80% has been fenced, but work on the remaining stretches remains stalled due to various challenges.
Sections of the existing fencing have deteriorated due to natural causes such as landslides and heavy rains, while some areas have been deliberately damaged by miscreants.
“During the NEC plenary session in December 2024, I raised the need for urgent repairs and the construction of new fencing in unfenced areas. The issue has been highlighted with the central leadership multiple times and is under their consideration,” said Saha, adding that he intends to bring the matter to Delhi’s attention again.
Addressing concerns over infiltration, the Chief Minister noted that he has engaged with the Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and prevent illegal crossings.
While the anticipated surge in infiltration has not materialised, Saha emphasised the importance of continued vigilance and effective deportation measures for illegal immigrants.
