Agartala: On the occasion of Earth Day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the ‘QR Codes for Flora’ initiative at Amtali High School in West Tripura.
The project, launched during a school programme on Tuesday, aims to provide instant digital access to information about trees on the campus.
QR codes attached to trees will offer details such as the tree’s name, species, characteristics, and ecological benefits, encouraging students to engage with and learn more about their environment.
Speaking at the event, which also marked the inauguration of the school’s new building, Chief Minister Saha explained that the initiative was introduced by the Ministry of Education to commemorate Earth Day.
“These QR codes create an innovative way for students to connect with nature, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on ecological balance to ensure a sustainable future for the planet,” Saha said.
He added that schools across the state will digitally catalogue flora on their campuses between April 22 and 30 as part of the initiative.
As Education Minister, Saha highlighted the government’s commitment to providing quality education. He emphasized efforts such as implementing the National Education Policy (NEP), adopting the ‘Vidya Setu’ holistic progress module, and introducing smart classrooms in 854 schools.
The Chief Minister also announced significant investments in educational infrastructure, with Rs. 264 crore allocated for new constructions and renovations in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Over the past decade, Rs. 153 crore has been spent on constructing 44 new school buildings, with additional funding from the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) being used to enhance facilities in schools across Tripura.
