Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for highlighting India’s first bio-village in Tripura in his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast.
“I am very happy to see the PM highlighting and promoting India’s first bio-village in his Mann Ki Baat programme,” Saha said.
PM Modi on Sunday made a special reference to the successful implementation of the concept of bio-village in Tripura during his Mann Ki Baat programme..
Non-renewable sources of energy can be beneficial for remote areas of the state as transporting electrical energy is costly and not economically viable, the chief minister said. “We will work more on solar energy in the future,” Saha said.
Tripura Renewable Energy Development Authority (TREDA) in association with the Tripura Bio-Technology department had established India’s first bio-village at Daspara in Sepahijala district.
TREDA and the Tripura Bio-Technology department started the work around two years ago. The concept of bio-village is environment-friendly, and water pumps for irrigation and lighting system are solar-powered, Saha said.
More than five dozen families at Daspara, located about 25 kms south of Agartala, meet their energy requirement from solar power.
The Bio-Technology department has helped the farmers to set up pig and goat farms.
Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also thanked the Prime Minister for acknowledging Tripura government’s successful implementation of the first bio-village.
