Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday highlighted the extensive damage caused by last year’s devastating floods, estimating a loss of Rs 15,000 crore.
The chief minister revealed that he is actively engaged with the Centre to secure funds for the state’s restoration efforts.
Saha acknowledged the Centre’s support during the floods, including the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and helicopters.
“In response to our request, the Centre sent an inter-ministerial team twice to assess the damage caused by the floods. These efforts were crucial as the floods devastated properties and infrastructure worth Rs 15,000 crore,” he said.
To initiate immediate restoration work, the state government has allocated Rs 563 crore from its own budget.
The chief minister expressed hope that the Centre would provide the necessary funds for continued restoration, following the proper procedures.

The floods, which struck Tripura in August and September last year, resulted in the tragic loss of 38 lives and affected around 17 lakh people.
Eleven out of the state’s twelve rivers breached their danger levels, leading to severe flooding in three districts—Sepahijala, Gumati, and South Tripura.
In response, the state government set up 889 relief camps to shelter the 4 lakh people displaced by the floods.
Saha emphasised the urgency of post-flood recovery and restoration to rebuild the affected areas and support the state’s residents in their recovery.
