Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday assured that his government would extend every possible assistance to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to establish a state-of-the-art cricket academy in Tripura.
Speaking at the annual awards ceremony of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), Saha underlined the need for world-class training infrastructure to nurture young cricketing talent from the state.
“To become a successful cricketer, physical and mental fitness are essential, and that comes through proper coaching. This can only happen when we have a dedicated cricket academy in the state,” the chief minister said.
Saha revealed that he had recently visited the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to assess its facilities and expressed his commitment to creating similar standards in Tripura.
“The state government is fully prepared to help BCCI set up a modern cricket academy here. If BCCI comes forward with a land requirement, we will consider it seriously. The funds in TCA’s account should be used to ensure players receive the best facilities,” he said.

The chief minister also urged TCA to strengthen cricketing infrastructure at the subdivision level, noting the challenges posed by Tripura’s climate.
“I have asked TCA to develop facilities in subdivisions so that players can continue training even during the monsoon months, as the current weather conditions allow outdoor play for barely four months a year,” he added.
Saha further informed that the international cricket stadium under construction in West Tripura is expected to be completed within the next six months, adding a major boost to the state’s sporting ambitions.
