Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Tipra Motha Party (TMP)-ruled Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging large-scale financial and administrative irregularities and warning that the state government would expose “every unethical work” taking place at the council headquarters in Khumulwng.
Addressing a joining programme in Khumulwng in West Tripura district, Saha claimed the state government was fully aware of developments at the autonomous council and accused its leadership of financial indiscipline.
The chief minister alleged that the council had failed to pay pensions to retired employees due to poor financial management. He said neither the Centre nor the state provides any additional funds specifically for pension payments beyond the committed expenditure outlay.
Saha also accused the TMP of delaying the election of village committees (VCs), alleging that the present council had constituted 123 new village committees without following due legal procedures and later rolled back the decision.
He claimed that the creation of these new village committees had disrupted the election process, leading to delays. Elections to 587 village committees were originally scheduled to be held in February 2021, he said.
Warning of further disclosures, Saha said the state government would reveal unethical practices at the council headquarters at the appropriate time and inform the public about what he described as false claims.
The chief minister also asserted that the BJP-led government had resolved the long-pending Bru (Reang) refugee issue, saying more than 8,000 families had been resettled after the signing of an agreement, thereby ending a 23-year-old problem.
Without naming the party directly, Saha criticised the TMP for claiming credit for resolving the Bru issue and said his government would not allow anyone else to take credit for the settlement.
He further took aim at the TMP over its claims related to agreements with outlawed groups, including the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), and said his government would not allow anyone to claim responsibility for bringing lasting peace.
