Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday announced a 5 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners.

The announcement follows the presentation of the state budget on the second day of the ongoing Tripura Legislative Assembly session.

Shortly after Finance Minister Pranjit Sinhgharoy concluded his speech presenting the state budget proposals for the 2026-27 financial year, the Chief Minister rose to make an announcement that brought cheer to government employees and pensioners who had been eagerly awaiting relief ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

CM Saha said that the move aims at supporting government employees and pensioners; adding that the decision was taken despite financial constraints faced by the state government.

The DA and DR announced today will be effective from April 1 this year and will cost the state exchequer a total amount of Rs 500 crores.

The government said the hike will benefit around 1.2 lakh regular employees as well as 81,019 pensioners and family pensioners across the state.

The announcement of 5% DA and DR by the chief minister brings down the gap between central and state employees in DA and DR receipt down to 17%.

In a post on X, CM Saha wrote, “The state government has decided to give an additional 5% dearness allowance (DA) to its employees. This increased DA will be effective from April 1. This decision will benefit state government employees and pensioners.”

pic.twitter.com/8ebAxvkL0K
