Agartala: The Tripura cabinet has approved the upgrade of two institutions — the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) and Tripura Women’s College — into full-fledged state universities.
The decision was approved during a meeting of the State Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Tripura Cabinet Spokesperson and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said.
With this addition, the total number of state-run universities in Tripura will be three.
Currently, the northeastern state has one state government-run university, Maharaja Bir Bikram University, while the Tripura University is managed by the Ministry of Human Resources.
“The Council of Ministers has approved a proposal for converting TIT as a full-fledged technical varsity. All the polytechnic colleges of the state will be governed by it once all the procedures are over,” Chowdhury said.
He said the cabinet also cleared another proposal to elevate Tripura Women’s College, located in Agartala, as a state government-run university.
“The cabinet has approved the upgrade of Women’s College into Women’s University. The move will certainly boost the higher education ecosystem in the northeastern state that reflects the government’s commitment,” he stated.
Chowdhury said the cabinet also approved the creation and filling up of 407 posts across various government departments.
“Altogether 97 auditors, investigators and statistical investigators will be recruited in the cooperation department and the written examination will be conducted by the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT),” he said adding 28 posts of ICDS supervisors will be recruited by the Tripura Civil Service Commission.
