Agartala: The Janajati Morcha, the tribal wing of Tripura BJP, has strongly opposed the CPI(M)’s tribal arm, Tripura Rajya Ganamukti Parisad’s (GMP), ‘Raj Bhavan Abhijan’ protest scheduled for January 11.
The GMP has called the demonstration to raise concerns over various tribal issues and submit a deputation to the Governor.
Speaking at a press conference, Janajati Morcha Vice President Bidyot Debbarma criticised the move, questioning the CPI(M)’s sincerity in addressing tribal welfare.
“We strongly oppose this protest and challenge the concerns raised by the GMP about tribal welfare,” Debbarma said.
Highlighting the BJP-led government’s achievements, he pointed to the resolution of the 23-year-long Bru refugee crisis, the designation of 12 tribal-dominated blocks as aspirational zones, and the renaming of Agartala Airport in honor of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as examples of progress under BJP governance.
Addressing the delay in Village Committee (VC) elections, Debbarma explained that the process of including Bru voters is underway.
Once completed, elections for all 587 VCs will be conducted.

He assured that development projects in rural areas continue despite the pending elections.
Senior BJP leader Bimal Chakma accused the Left Front of neglecting the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), claiming the Left deliberately avoided granting greater powers to the council.
Chakma called for the passage of the 125th Amendment Bill, which seeks to provide enhanced political and economic powers to tribal councils.
The Janajati Morcha reaffirmed its commitment to tribal welfare while challenging the Left’s track record, urging constructive dialogue over symbolic protests.
