Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday convened a meeting with senior BJP functionaries, including state party president Rajib Bhattacharjee, to review the party’s organisational preparedness ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and civic bodies.
The meeting took place a day after Saha’s discussion with Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on the progress of the Tiprasa accord, which was inked in February last year for the welfare and development of the state’s indigenous communities.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Saha said the discussions primarily focused on strengthening the BJP’s organisational machinery in view of the approaching elections.
“We held deliberations on organisational matters as the TTAADC and municipal polls are nearing. The leaders discussed ways to further consolidate the party at the grassroots,” he said.
Saha dismissed speculation that the meeting touched upon issues related to the state BJP president’s tenure or the alliance with TMP. “There was no discussion on those matters,” he clarified.
A senior BJP leader said the party has directed its leaders to assess organisational strength at the booth level across all 20 Scheduled Tribe-reserved Assembly constituencies.
“Observers have already been appointed for all 28 TTAADC seats, currently under the administration of our ally TMP, to review the ground situation and identify areas for improvement,” the leader added.
The elections to the TTAADC are slated to be held early next year.
