Agartala: Fourteen candidates are in the fray for the Tripura Bar Council elections scheduled for February 14, with lawyers set to vote to fill 11 seats on the new committee, Returning Officer Justice S C Das said on Wednesday.
Polling will be conducted from 7 am to 4 pm at 15 designated locations across the state. Seven polling booths will operate within the premises of the Tripura High Court in Agartala, while eight others will be set up at district and sub-divisional headquarters where more than 20 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots.
The Bar Council has a total strength of 14 members. Three seats have already been filled by women advocates who were elected unopposed, in line with the Supreme Court-mandated 30 per cent reservation for women. Since only three women candidates filed nomination papers, they were declared elected with the approval of the High Power Election Committee.
The remaining 11 members will be elected through a preferential voting system. Voters will be required to mark at least five preferences on their ballot papers.

Justice Das urged electors to strictly follow the prescribed voting procedure, warning that any deviation could result in the vote being declared invalid.
The counting of votes is scheduled for February 21.
