Agartala: The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission on Wednesday announced the resumption of visa and consular services in Agartala after a two-month hiatus.
The operations were halted on December 3, a day after a group of protesters forcibly entered the mission’s premises, citing concerns over the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Dhaka.
The activists breached the security barricade at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, vandalized the property, and removed the Bangladeshi national flag.
In response, the Bangladesh government halted visa and consular services and withdrew all officials from the commission in Agartala.
Residents of Tripura said the suspension of visa services and travel assistance to Bangladesh had put them in a difficult position, as many have relatives in various parts of Bangladesh.
In a notice released on Tuesday, Md. Al Amin, First Secretary of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, stated, “All visa and consular services of the Bangladesh Asst High Commission will resume on February 5.”
For many enterprises and travelers who depend on these services for cross-border mobility, this announcement is a relief.

With the resumption of visa services, there is renewed optimism among travelers and businesses that cross-border movement will proceed smoothly.
The diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh are expected to stablise with the restoration of services.
