Agartala: Tipra Motha Party chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has urged the state government to form a monitoring committee to prevent the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, evicted from Assam, from entering Tripura.
Debbarma stated that he recently had a meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI), where he reiterated the party’s stance against allowing any illegal immigrants who have entered the state unlawfully to become part of Tripura’s populace.
“If Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram can be on alert after eviction of illegal immigrants from Assam why is Tripura yet to react? I urge the state government to follow similar exercise in our state so we don’t allow illegal immigrations to enter our state,” Debbarma said.
The Tipra Motha chief said that he had requested the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to constitute a monitoring committee across all party lines to detect illegal immigrants who are illegally entering the TTAADC areas at the earliest.
“We should take this matter seriously as many illegal people from Assam are being evicted and may enter neighbouring states. This committee should work not as political entities but as the protector of our rights,” he stated.
He said, “This committee will monitor by visiting villages and collecting details on who has entered TTAADC illegally and who has been attempting to enter.”

“Tripura shares a porous border with Assam. Without a robust framework, we risk becoming a dumping ground for these migrants. If we continue to compromise for electoral gains, it will be harmful for our next generation. We must protect our land and identity, and I request the Tripura government to make sure not a single evicted illegal Bangladeshi from Assam enters the state,” he added.
This is not about religion or identity; it is about safeguarding the future, he said.
